Merge Decisions

OneMerge Merge Decisions

The purpose of this article is to provide step-by-step instructions for using the Merge Decisions feature within OneMerge to support Data Stewarding.

When Duplicate Record Sets are created and Data Stewarding is enabled, the records will not be merged until a decision has been made to Accept or Reject the merge. The Merge Decisions feature provides a list of Duplicate Record Sets that require Data Stewarding and allows users to Accept, Reject, or Skip each decision for later review.

Initial Setup

Before using the Merge Decisions feature, two new fields must be added to the OneMerge Duplicate Record Set page layout.

To add these fields:

    1. Navigate to Setup.
    2. Select the Duplicate Record Set object.
    3. Open the OneMerge Duplicate Record Set page layout.
    4. Add the following fields to the Data Stewarding Information section:
    5. Select Save.

Merge Decisions Tab

The Merge Decisions tab displays a list of Duplicate Record Sets that require Data Stewarding.

To help you find the records you need, you can filter the list by Object, Date, or Match Confidence Score. This is particularly useful when working with a large number of Duplicate Record Sets or when you want to focus on a specific subset of records.

Merge Decisions

Once you have filtered the list to the Duplicate Record Sets you want to review, select a Duplicate Record Set to perform a field-by-field comparison of the records it contains.

Review the values for each field to determine whether the records represent the same entity and should be merged. Based on your review, you can decide whether to Accept or Reject the merge. If you need to carry out further investigation before making a decision, you can choose to Skip the Duplicate Record Set and return to it at a later time by selecting Show Skipped.

Any decision you make is recorded on the Duplicate Record Set.

  • If you Accept or Reject the Duplicate Record Set, the Merge Decision field is updated with your selection.
  • If you choose to Skip the Duplicate Record Set, the two new Data Stewarding fields are updated to indicate that the record has been deferred for later review.

Accepting or Rejecting a Duplicate Record Set

To Accept or Reject a Duplicate Record Set:

  1. Select the Duplicate Record Set.
  2. Select Accept or Reject.
  3. The Duplicate Record Set is removed from the Merge Decisions list.

To verify your decision, open the Duplicate Record Sets tab and confirm that the Merge Decision field has been updated with the selected value.

When the Merge Job next runs, the Duplicate Record Set will either be merged or not merged, depending on the Merge Decision.
