How to Create a new Merge Rule

OneMerge Training – How to Create a new Merge Rule

Test Scenario 1 – How to Create a new Merge Rule, where the oldest field value in a matched group is populated to the Master Record.

Merge Rules determine the logic applied in the population of the winning record fields, (e.g. Oldest value wins or Newest).

To create a Merge Rule where the oldest field value should be populated to the Master Record, follow these steps:

  1. From the OneMerge Application Home page, click Guided Setup in the footer (the Welcome Step may display first if ‘hide Welcome step?’ has not been selected).
  2. On the first screen select the Setup Action Manage Merge Rulesets, and click the Next button (as shown below).
  3. The next screen displays a list of existing Merge Rulesets, select the Merge Ruleset to edit and click the Next button.
  4. On the next screen select Manage Merge Rules and click the Next button.
  5. On the next screen, this is where a new Merge Rule can be created. Select Create New and click the Next button.
  6. The next screen is where you input the name of the Merge Rule. For the Oldest value to win, select Merge Rule Priority ‘Oldest’, by Created Date. As described in the help text, other options can be specified (as shown below). Ensure ‘Is Active’ is selected and click the Next button.
  7. On the next screen, click on the Finish button. The Merge Rule has now been setup.

The next step is to add the fields that apply to that Rule.

  1. From the start of the Guided Setup, select Manage Merge Rulesets and click the Next button.
  2. Select the Merge Ruleset as per step 3 and click the Next button.
  3. On the next screen select Manage Merge Rules as per step 4, and click the Next button.
  4. Select the Merge Rule setup as per step 6, and then select Manage Merge Rule Fields. Click the Next button.
  5. Leave ‘Create New’ selected and click on the Next button. This screen is where the fields can be added. Examples and help text are also provided. When complete, click on the Next button.
  6. Click on the Next button. Any validation messages will be displayed in the screen. Click on the Finish button.

Once the Merge Rule has been setup, the home page ‘Merge Ruleset Status’ panel will list all Merge Rules for the given Merge Ruleset. A green tick icon indicates the status. If an amber icon is displayed, there is an issue with the configuration.

Test Scenario 2 – How to Create a new Merge Rule to update a blank value on the Master Record

Where a matched record group exists, and the record that will become the Master Record has a blank value in a field, there may be the requirement to populate this field if a value exists on a child(source) record. To do this, follow all the steps as per Test Scenario 1, until step 12. On this screen, ensure ‘Is Required’ is selected.
