This article provides step-by-step instructions on OneMerge Create Merge Rules and how to do this. The Master Record is created for the Salesforce Object according to the Merge Ruleset and Merge Rules definition. OneMerge installs default Merge Rulesets and Merge Rules for the Account, Contact, Lead objects, and also for PersonAccounts.

Test Scenario 1 – How to Create a new Merge Rule.

Merge Rules determine the logic applied in the population of the winning record fields, (e.g. Oldest value wins or Newest).

Follow these steps to create a Merge Rule where the oldest value wins:

  1. From the OneMerge Application Home page, click Guided Setup in the footer (the Welcome Step may display first if ‘hide Welcome step?’ has not been selected).
  2. On the first screen, you should select the Setup Action Manage Merge Rulesets, and click the Next button (as shown below).
  3. The next screen displays a list of existing Merge Rulesets, select the Merge Ruleset to edit and click the Next button.
  4. On the next screen, you should select Manage Merge Rules and click the Next button.
  5. The next screen is where a new Merge Rule can be created. Select Create New and click the Next button.
  6. The next screen is where you input the name of the Merge Rule. For the Oldest value to win, you should select Merge Rule Priority ‘Oldest’, by Created Date.  Select ‘Is Active’ and click the Next button.
  7. Click the Finish button on the next screen.
  8. The Merge Rule has been setup.

Test Scenario 2 – How to Add Merge Rule fields to the Merge Rule.

  1. From the start of the Guided Setup, select Manage Merge Rulesets and click the Next button.
  2. Select the Merge Ruleset as per step 3 and click the Next button.
  3. On the next screen select Manage Merge Rules as per step 4, and click the Next button.
  4. Select the Merge Rule setup as per step 6, and then select Manage Merge Rule Fields. Click the Next button.
  5. Select ‘Create New’ and click on the Next button. This screen allows you to add fields, with examples and help text provided. Once finished, simply click on the Next button to proceed.
  6. Click on the Next button. Any validation messages will be displayed in the screen. Click on the Finish button.

Leave ‘Create New’ selected and click on the Next button.This screen is where the fields can be added. Examples and help text are also provided. When complete, click on the Next button.

Test Scenario 2 – How to Create a new Merge Rule to update a blank value on the Master Record 

Where a matched record group exists, and the record that will become the Master Record has a blank value in a field, you may need to populate this field if a value exists on a child (source) record. To do this, follow all the steps as per Test Scenario 1, until you reach step 12. On this screen, ensure you select ‘Is Required’.
