Test Scenario 1 – How to Configure a Merge Ruleset

A Merge Ruleset defines how the Master Record is created for the specified Salesforce Object. OneMerge installs default Merge Rulesets for the Account, Contact, Lead objects and also for PersonAccounts if this feature is enabled. This article, OneMerge Configure Merge Rulesets, provides step-by-step instructions on how to configure a Merge Ruleset using Guided Setup for a given Salesforce Object. This article is applicable to OneMerge Free Edition, Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition. NOTE: It is advisable to Clone the Standard Merge Ruleset first and use the cloned one for making configuration changes. That way you will have the original Merge Ruleset to reference back to if required.

To configure a Merge Ruleset, follow these steps:

1. From the OneMerge Application Home page, click Guided Setup in the footer.
2. On the first screen select the Setup Action Manage Merge Rulesets, and click the Next button (as shown below).
3. On the next screen select the Standard Merge Ruleset for Accounts and click Edit the Selected Setting and click the Next button.
4. On the next screen select Edit the Merge Ruleset and click the Next button.
5. The next screen displays the default values for the Merge Ruleset  which can be retained as they are, or amended. Here change the Master Record Priority to Oldest, click the Next button.
6. The next screen displays the default values for the Merge Ruleset Priority which determine the Master Record during Merge. These can be retained as they are or amended, click the Next button.
7. The next screen displays the Merge Ruleset Fields that are displayed on the Master Record. These can be retained as they are or amended, click the Next button.
8. The next screen should show a success message, click the Finish button.

The Merge Ruleset has been updated from Newest to Oldest.

Additional Information

A new configuration option has been added in version 1.74 (Winter 25 Release), Catch-all (Standard and Enterprise Editions).

When the “Is Catch-all?” option is ticked and Default Merge Rule Priority settings are defined, then all fields that are not added to a Merge Rule are updated on the Master Record from the record evaluated to have the highest priority value. Note, the running user for the merge operation must have update access to the fields. Also, in a cross-object merge context, records from a different Salesforce object to the Master Record are ignored.
