Salesforce Rollback Reparenting Rules

Salesforce Rollback Reparenting Rules using OneMerge Guided Setup Configuration

This blog post explores and demonstrates the ability to be able to Rollback Reparenting Rules using OneMerge, within the Guided Setup configuration. When Records are Merged, there may be occasions where the end result is not as expected, is incorrect ,or a merge should not have happened at all, including Child Objects. The rollback feature within OneMerge provides the ability to be able to not only reverse the Merge Rules, but also the Reparenting Rules. This blog post specifically explains this process, when the Merge Action is Platform Merge. This applies to OneMerge Standard and Enterprise Editions.

OneMerge Rollback Reparenting Rules define which related records are returned to the original parent record by rollback operations. Platform Merge only.

Rollback Reparenting Rules can be added for standard, custom or packaged objects which have a child relationship to the Salesforce Object for which the Merge Ruleset is defined.

The following demo provides an overview of the Rollback Reparenting Rules configuration within Guided Setup. The assumption is that the Child to Parent Object configuration has already been setup.

Test Scenario

  1. Click on Guided Setup in the footer of OneMerge.
  2. Select Manage Merge Rulesets from the Actions available.
  3. Select the Merge Ruleset that the Rollback Reparenting Rules will be configured for. In this example, the Standard Contacts Merge Ruleset will be selected.
  4. Select Manage Rollback Reparenting Rules on the next step.
  5. In this example, ChildObjects is a Custom Object, and has already been configured. We will select this one to view the details.
  6. Select Edit the Selected Setting and click the Next button.
  7. Enter the Rollback Reparenting Rule Label.
  8. Select the Salesforce Object.
  9. Tick the ‘Is Active check?’ box.
  10. Enter the Record Limit. This controls the number of child records that are recorded for rollback.
  11. Select the Master Field Name (Child to Parent Object lookup field). See screenshot below.
  12. The final step will display whether there are any validation errors. Click on the Finish button.

Rollback reparenting Rule

The Rollback Reparenting Rule has now been setup. When Merging Records that have also reparented Child Object Records, when selecting Rollback in the Merge Result, the Child Object Records will be reparented back to the original Source Records.
