Cross-object merge in Salesforce refers to merging duplicate records across different objects, such as Leads and Contacts, which is a common use case. This feature helps ensure a clean, accurate database by consolidating information from multiple sources.
The following demo provides a brief overview of a Lead and Contact being marked as a duplicate within each record. In order for Cross Object Merge to occur, configuration will need setting up. This is explained in detail in the following blog post.
Test Scenario
NOTE: Configuration has been setup for Cross Object Merge.
- Navigate to the Contacts Tab and create a new Contact.
- Create a new Lead with the same credentials as the Contact.
- The configuration in this example is setup for Real Time Merge (Application Settings).
- View the Contact. The following fields will be populated ‘Last Matched Lead’ and ‘Last Matched Lead Date‘
- View the Lead. The following fields will be populated ‘Is Duplicate Lead?‘ and ‘Last Duplicate Check Date’.
- Within the Lead Related List, the Matched Contact is displayed.
