Salesforce Advanced Duplicate Reporting

Winter 25 Release Highlights

This post describes the new advanced duplicate reporting feature added in the OneMerge Winter ’25 release. This post extends an earlier Winter ’25 release highlights post on the topic of Salesforce Duplicate Reporting. The earlier post covered the capability to scan a Salesforce Object and generate duplicate statistics with the active Duplicate Rules and Matching Rules; both standard out-of-the-box Salesforce Duplicate Management features. The generated duplicate statistics can be grouped up to 3 levels and used for point-in-time checks, trend analysis and the identification of the source of data duplication; as basic examples of the supported use cases. For more advanced duplicate reporting requirements which go beyond the limitations of the aggregated statistics approach, it is necessary to provide a more detailed view where individual records are flagged as duplicates and linked to a primary duplicate within a group. With OneMerge Standard and Enterprise Edition the Duplicate Check job can be scheduled with the Job Type set to Update Records. This new Job Type scans the records within the Salesforce Object and updates the packaged fields noted below. Please note, where records are identified as unique (i.e. not a duplicate, the timestamp is updated and the remaining functional fields are blanked).

  • Is Duplicate? — the record is a duplicate
  • Is Primary Duplicate? — the record is the primary duplicate for a group (the oldest record within the group)
  • Duplicate Of — lookup to the primary duplicate
  • Last Duplicate Check Date — timestamp of the last duplicate check

The fields above enable rich flexibility in the reporting of duplicates via Salesforce Report Builder and Dashboards and also provide the basis upon which to incorporate User notifications and manual deduplication processes directly into User or System interactions with duplicate records.

In addition to the providing greater flexibility in reporting, the Update Records option also provides an alternative processing model to the match-and-merge record lifecycle automation supported by OneMerge. For example, it may be desirable to simply ring-fence and isolate duplicates to exclude from certain business processes or data integration flows.

The following screenshots show the key aspects of the Advanced Duplicate Reporting solution.
